Kylian Mbappé Hits Milestone as Real Madrid Edge Atalanta
Real Madrid CF reignited their UEFA Champions League campaign with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Atalanta BC on Tuesday, 10 December.
The night belonged to Madrid’s forward Kylian Mbappé, who opened the scoreboard early with a clinical finish to net his 50th Champions League goal at Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo, Italy.
At just 25 years and 356 days, Mbappé became the second-youngest player to reach this milestone, trailing only Lionel Messi. Despite his dazzling start, Mbappé’s evening was cut short in the first half due to a hamstring issue, leaving Real fans anxiously awaiting updates.
Atalanta equalised before the break, with forward Charles De Ketelaere converting a penalty after a clumsy foul from the visitors’Aurélien Tchouaméni.
Real showed their resilience in the second half. Vinícius Jr., returning from injury, slotted home to restore the lead before Jude Bellingham combined with Vinícius for a sublime third goal.
Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman kept the hosts in the contest with a sharp finish, but Real held firm under pressure to finish victorious.
The win moves Real closer to a coveted top-eight spot, keeping their knockout hopes alive. As they face Salzburg and Brest in January, Carlo Ancelotti’s men must hope Mbappé’s injury doesn’t derail their European ambitions.
